The Survival of Ancient Trees

Exclusive Report!

Will there be any trees left?

How can this tree recover from a looming extinction?

Once it stood majestic and tall, lining the streets of cities and towns across Canada. Today, it’s just a memory. One that our future generations may never experience.

But does it have to stay that way? Can this tree survive in Canada and North America?
Can it be restored to its former glory?
Standing high and mighty once again in backyards, forest fields and farmlands.

The truth is harsh: this tree is fighting for survival. Can it truly make a comeback in Canada and North America, or are we witnessing the final chapter of its story?

Its absence, leaves our landscapes emptier, our ecosystems weaker, and our heritage diminished.
If we do nothing, this symbol of strength and beauty could disappear forever.

An Urgent Mission!

What Happened to the American Elm Tree?

Since the 1930s, over 77 million American Elm trees have been lost in North America.
Not only to Dutch elm disease but also through the proactive cutting of uninfected trees.
Yes, we cut them down!

This tragic loss has left a noticeable gap in our landscapes.
Where these iconic trees once stood tall, providing shade, shelter, and beauty to countless communities.

But there’s hope. We are planting seeds and these can develop into new disease-resistant varieties.
Every new tree planted becomes a step toward restoring this North American classic.

Each sapling represents resilience, recovery, and a brighter future for our urban and natural environments. Let’s bring back the beauty of the American Elm—one tree at a time!

Seeds Needed

1930s: disease outbreak

Resistant elms

DED. What Is It?

The Resilience of Elms.

This majestic tree faces significant challenges, most notably due to the devastating impacts of Dutch elm disease (DED).
This fungal infection, spread by the elm bark beetle and through tree root systems.
This has dramatically diminished elm populations since its emergence in the mid-20th century.

What's The Plan?

  1. Growing new seedlings that can be resistant to the diesease.
  2. Reintroduce this vital species into both urban landscapes and forests.
  3. Embark on replanting initiatives to restore these trees to their former prominence.

The disease threatens not only urban specimens but also wild populations, altering ecosystems that rely on the American elm for habitat and food sources.
