How to Plant Pot Ready Trees & Shrubs
Pot-ready plants arrive with an intact root ball and well-developed feeder roots — which makes planting easier and improves survival. Follow these practical steps to give your tree the best start: do the prep, plant with care, and check in regularly during establishment. These steps are written for home gardeners and professionals alike.
Step-by-step
Step 1 — Water Before Planting
Ensure the pot is well watered before removing the plant.
Step 2 — Dig a Slightly Larger Hole
Make the hole twice the width of the pot.
Step 3 — Keep the Same Soil Level
Do not bury the stem deeper than it was in the pot.
Step 4 — Backfill & Water Deeply
Water thoroughly to eliminate air pockets.
