Nut Trees
THERE ARE 2 QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF WHEN CHOOSING NUT TREES.
1. Do I want tall nut trees or short nut trees?
2. How many trees do I need for pollination?
ANSWERS:
1. Both. and where are you planting them?
2. Getting 2 or more of each nut tree will ensure adequate pollination and will give you a heftier nut harvest.
TALL TREES:
The Shagbark Hickory, Buartnut, Butternut, Heartnut, Black Walnut, Chestnut and Persian Walnut are all the tall trees in this group.
They will grow into a food producing powerhouse reaching upwards of 50 feet tall. Perfect for any food forest or feature tree.
Grow them as close as 10 feet for timber orchards and 30 feet for the best producing nuts.
All these trees pollinate themselves but do extra well with a partner tree for the most nut production.
Two of the same type of trees are best!
SHORT TREES:
This is where the hazelnuts get introduced.
Hazelnuts grow around 15 – 25 feet in height.
The hazelnut is an exciting nut tree. It’s classified as a shrub and i’ve seen them growing and pruned as hedgerows.
Giving off bucketfuls of nuts each year. As one of the earlier nut producers, ripening in early september.
THIS IS GREAT INFORMATION BUT…WHAT DO THEY TASTE LIKE?
All the nuts have a varying degree of flavors similar to the Walnut.
You know the one in the store that you see in the shell.
The Black Walnut has a smokey flavour, The heartnut is sweet and yes, the Butternut tastes like butter. Amazing and delicious!
And why nut make some roasted hazelnuts and hazelnut butter. Yum!
WHEN WILL I RECIEVE MY TREES?
When you order these trees you are securing them for Spring in 2026. Yes.
Buy these trees NOW and receive them when the ground is thawing in the spring.
Relax this winter and know that your trees are dormant and sleeping, while being well looked after.
WHAT DO MY TREES LOOK LIKE?
When your trees get delivered to your door in the spring.
You will you have healthy looking sapling trees.
They will be a dormant bare root plant.
Plant the trees in the ground shortly after they arrive.
The plant is asleep and when the soil starts to warm up, the trees then wake up. The buds start showing themselves first then the new leaves start to unfold.
You get to watch them grow into high yielding, perennial crop producing, edible plants.
HOW MUCH ARE THEY AND WHAT DO I DO NEXT?
I’ts as simple as nut pie. Just below is the selction of nut trees that you can add to your online shopping cart.
Add each tree to your cart.
Add 2 of the same for pollination.
Checkout very easily at the store checkout.
REMEMBER. You will leave your mailing address and we will ship them between April and June, with a tracking number in the spring time, when the ground is not frozen.
